Software

BMTTM (Basin Modelling Toolbox)

BMT is a software to assist in solving several specialized problems related to the different processes that take place in sedimentary basins. The software was developed during large-scale, industry-supported research projects in the 1990s. BMT is an advanced 2D basin modelling system with built-in structural reconstruction capabilities. The software's ability to create area balanced cross sections in environments with normal or reversed faults, and to analyze the interplay between tectonic processes, heat flow and timing of generation and distribution of hydrocarbons in a basin, makes BMT a tool for the expert user. With add-in modules, BMT has the power to analyze complex tectonic processes, including intra plate stress, salt diapirism and igneous intrusions, and to model the related heat flow response. More information on basin modelling and BMT can be found here.

GlaciMod

GlaciMod models the Earth's isostatic response to glaciers, waterload and sediments.  It is a layered viscous model  overlain  by  an  elastic  lithosphere;  more details  on  the  modelling  technique,  cf.  (Fjeldskaar  and  Cathles,  1991;  Fjeldskaar,  1994, 1997). Fjeldskaar et al. (2000) found that the asthenosphere has a thickness less than 150 km and viscosity less than 7.0x1019 Pa s beneath the lithosphere. The mantle viscosity below the asthenosphere  was  estimated  to  1021 Pa  s,  and  the  flexural  rigidity close to  1024 Nm  (effective elastic thickness of 40 km). The modeling is done with much higher resolution than has previously been  done;  the  spatial  resolution of the input data and modelling results is now 10 km. More on GlaciMod here.
